Processes, teams, technologies and decisions do not operate independently; a change in one may alter the conditions experienced by others.

Understanding interdependencies helps anticipate indirect effects and reduces unintended consequences when systems or organisations are changed.

Not every connection is an important interdependency. Analysis should focus on relationships capable of changing the behaviour, constraints or outcome relevant to the question being examined.
